“I have been on the path of Chicanismo and community empowerment my whole adult life. I adhere to the philosophy of Chicanismo that states we must go back to our community to be agents of change, not only for Chicanos, but for other marginalized people. I may be the one receiving this award, which is overwhelmingly humbling, but I belong to a movement that began long before me, and will continue after me. ¡La lucha sigue!”
